TCP Rate Control Using Active ECN Mechanism with RTT-Based Marking Probability
نویسندگان
چکیده
The end-to-end TCP congestion control based on a window flow control mechanism can cause unfairness among multiple TCP connections with different RTT (round trip time), dut to its non-uniform increase of the rate. In order to achieve the fairness among TCP connections, we propose a rate control scheme using ECN (Explicit Congestion Notification) on TCP congestion control. At an ECN-implemented router, ACK packets of each connection are set an ECN bit with a different probability according to the RTT. Since TCP senders reduce their congestion window sizes whenever they receive an ACK with an ECN bit, the proposed scheme can realize the same transmission rate among TCP connections with different RTTs. Computer simulation results show that the proposed rate control can drastically improve the fairness.

A fair AQM scheme for aggregated ECN and non-ECN traffic
We study the aggregated behaviour of the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) with and without Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) over a wide range of traffic conditions using different Active Queue Management (AQM) schemes. A new AQM scheme called Adaptive Rate-Queue Utilisation AQM (ARQUA) which attempts to provide high throughput while maintaining a target delay is proposed. We demonstrat...

متن کاملUsing Back-Pressure to Improve TCP Performance with Many Flows
Congestion control of Internet Best Effort traffic relies mostly on TCP window flow control of individual sessions. This paper argues that such approach does not scale well to a very large number of simultaneously active flows, typical of backbones characterized by large delay-bandwidth products. In this scenario, the TCP window sizes tend to be small and dropping or marking packets alone is no...
متن کاملTransport Protocols in the TCP Paradigm and their Performance
This paper defines a class of “TCP-like” transport protocols, called protocols in the TCP Paradigm. The name indicates the protocols are not TCP, but in some sense similar to it. The class includes TCP and also Tom Kelly’s “Scalable TCP”, and more. Most of the protocols in the class require ECN in order to become implementable. Most even require a form of ECN that allows a high rate of marked p...
